How to Tell If Your Ray Ban Sunglasses Are Fake or Original

Ray Ban- the most famous name in designer eyewear. When people are in doubt which brand to choose, they opt for Ray Ban sunglasses. When people want the full value for their money, they opt for Ray Ban shades only. Why? Because they know, with decades of experience in manufacturing the hottest sunglasses for men and women, it’s a brand they can fully trust upon.

Today, Ray Ban sunglasses are synonymous with high-end designer style, glamour, fashion and celebrities. From heyday Hollywood starlets like Brad Pitt, Robert Pattinson, Drew Barrymore to paparazzi girls like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton to the dashing Prez of the USA-Barack Obama, all are known to flaunt Ray Ban sunnies. So given an opportunity, most of us would like to grab a pair of this accessory. And it is here that we need to pay extra attention whenever looking to purchase sunglasses from this brand. There are numerous companies that manufacture Ray Ban replicas and try to pass off them as originals to the unsuspecting buyer. The knock offs are almost similar in looks to the original thing and first time shoppers will never suspect the difference in inferior quality of the frames and lenses.

Thus, to make sure you don’t end up with a pair of fakes, here are some steps which will help you differentiate the fake ones from the originals:

Check the box: Examine the box carefully in which your Ray Bans arrived. It should have the information about the manufacturer and distributor, a recycling logo and a semi-permanent sticker specifying the details of the model (type of lens, frame, color, model number etc). If the sticker is missing then the authenticity of the sunglasses is highly questionable.

Inspect the case: Satisfied with the box? Now open it and check the sunglasses case. Can you find an engraved gold logo that says “Luxottica”? If you don’t or the logo seems to be painted onto the case, then chances are that the sunglasses are knock-offs.

The Ray Ban logo: So far so good. Now to check the Ray Ban logo. Hold the sunglasses up, can you see the engraved RB logo just under the bridge of the nose piece? This engraving should read the right-side up when the sunnies are held upside down. If it does not then you’re holding a fake pair in your hands.

Lens check: Examine the right lens for the engraved RB logo. Is it above the hinge? Good, your Ray Bans are original. If it is below the hinge then you’ve been checking a replica all the time.

Quality of rubber: Notice the rubber on the frames and the earpieces? Touch them, feel them. Are they the sticky gluey type? Or do they have a smooth chalky feel? If it’s the latter then congrats, your Ray Ban sunnies have passed another “originality test”.

Authenticity card: This is it. The final step to check whether your Ray Ban are genuine or knock-offs. You must have received an authenticity card along with the sunglasses. It should be of superb-quality print (the ink should not smudge or smear on the card); free of any typos or grammatical errors and of course the card itself should be of the best type.

If your sunglasses have passed all the 6 steps mentioned above, you can celebrate! (and heave a sigh of relief ). I got my original Ray Ban 3025, Ray Ban 4068 and Ray Ban 3039 aviators after much consultation and research. Therefore, I hope you find the above points a great help in making out which is which and buy only the authentic stuff!
